A CONVERSATION ON MEDIA BIAS, HETERODOX THINKING, AND DEPOLARIZATION
American society, and the American media, are more polarized than ever, and most of us consume media that confirms our beliefs and opinions. In RQ’s first live Root Roundtable, Publisher and Editor Heather Shayne Blakeslee welcomes:
Dominic Green, London’s The Spectator
April Lawson, National Debate Chair for Braver Angels
Erec Smith, York College professor of Rhetoric and founder of Free Black Thought
We’ll have a conversation about what publications and public discourse are for, who they’re for, and why the center is still holding.
The Spectator, a center-right publication based in London for nearly two centuries, now has a U.S. edition of their magazine that is finding purchase with readers across the country. Braver Angels has over 2500 members in Pennsylvania alone, and has been hosting difficult conversations for the past several years that bring together Americans who fall down on different sides of the red/blue divide. Free Black Thought is a compendium of the wide range of views held by America’s intellectually diverse black community.
Please join us on Thursday, September 30 for food, drinks, and an honest conversation about what the mainstream media is getting wrong about the American public and its ability to uphold liberal values. After party details forthcoming.
